Susie Shannon Named one of Columbia Business Monthly’s Most Influential People Hall of Fame

Susie Shannon, President and CEO of SC Competes, was inducted to the 50 Most Influential People Hall of Fame by Columbia Business Monthly, after making the annual 50 Most Influential list for the last five years.

The influence and impact that Susie Shannon has had on the Palmetto State is profound. Susie’s early policy work helped introduce cluster-based economic development in South Carolina that led to SC Competes’ creation 20 years ago.

She practiced for many years in administrative/regulatory law before veering off the legal beaten path, developing an extensive history leading innovative, forward-looking organizations and initiatives throughout South Carolina designed to transform local areas into economically vibrant communities by nurturing existing local assets.

Her Service has included EPSCoR State Committee, Governor’s Cybersecurity Working Group (Economic Growth chair), South Carolina Housing Authority (vice-chair), Broadband Advisory Council, SCRA (Program Committee chair), Central Carolina Community Foundation, SC Thrive (chair emeritus), College of Charleston President’s Council on Industry Innovation/Engagement, TogetherSC, and SC Bar Committees on Technology (Cybersecurity chair), and Intellectual Property/Innovation.

Lifelong experiences include Riley Institute-Diversity Leaders Initiative, Francis Marion University-Nonprofit Leadership Institute, and Liberty Fellowship.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Shannon served in the U.S. Army Reserves and is a Gulf War veteran.
